ALGIERS-The 13th International Comic Strip Festival of Algiers (FIBDA) will be held on 22-26. Several countries are expected to partake in this cultural event, including Tunisia as the guest of honor, the organizers announced Monday.
On the sidelines of the event, several exhibitions of comics, conferences, training and educational workshops, Cosplay shows and other parades will take place Office Riadh el Feth (Algiers). Twenty Algerian and foreign artists will attend the 13th FIBDA.
In addition to Tunisia, guest of honor, which will participate with several designers and a gallery on the Tunisian comic strip, designers, academics as well as Algerian and foreign professional Cosplay artists from Japan, the United States, France, Poland and the Ivory Coast will partake in the festival.
Themed "Edition of Rebirth" because of an absence of nearly two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 13th FIBDA will focus on "training by granting the opportunity to students of fine arts institutes in Algiers and other provinces through access to conferences followed by workshops and the reduction of prices of tickets to 50%, or even free for students enrolled in the various stages of training.
Students will be at the rendezvous with a conference entitled "Bridges: Algerian comics and Japanese manga," hosted by academics of the Japanese University of Tsukuba and many creators of Japanese manga, like Aoyagi Etsuko and Miki Yamamoto.
Conferences will be held on Tunisian comics, comics in Tamazight language, fans of comics in Algeria, African comics, social networks and comics as a means to develop language skills.
The festival, which will open from 10:00 am to 07:00 pm, will be held in compliance with "health protocol", according to the organizers who said that the ticket price has been set at DZD500.
Created in 2008, FIBDA aims to celebrate and promote the 9th art in Algeria, they said.
