ALGIERS- Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Abdelhamid Hamdani said on Thursday that the national exports of agricultural products during the first ten months of 2020 reached $ 1 billion.
Answering a question of a member of the Council of the Nation on the facilitation of the export of agricultural products and the opening of air space to private exporters, Hamdani said that the sector which "recorded a surplus exported significant quantities of agricultural products to several European, African and Arab countries."
The overall amount of exports during the first ten months of 2020 reached $USD 1.1 billion.
With regard to the products exported abroad, the minister cited more than 53,000 tonnes of fruits and dates and 6,955 tonnes of vegetables.
The setcor's 2020-2024 program aims to develop the agricultural production in order to meet the market needs and boost exports likely to contributing to the national economy diversification effort and generating income in foreign currency.
In addition, Hamdani welcomed the measures taken to enhance exports, namely the removal of the bureaucratic obstacles and the consolidation of decentralization.
These measures also entail the control of agricultural products intended for export, the reduction of processing deadline of the files relating to perishable agricultural products by the health control authorities and the creation of logistics platforms in addition to the valuation and labeling of agricultural products.
In this regard, he cited the labeling, so far of 4 agricultural products. 140 other products will be labeled soon.
