APS - 15 November 2021

ALGIERS- Algeria's economic growth has reached 6.4% in the second quarter of 2021, compared to the same period last year, the National Office for Statistics told APS Monday.

After declines in economy in 2020 following the direct and indirect impacts of the Convid-19 pandemic, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has jumped in the 2nd quarter of 2021, recording an increase of 6.4% compared to the same period last year, the Office said.

This "constant" growth is the result of "a strong recovery" of economic activities in the sectors of Hydrocarbons (11%), Industry (9.3%), Construction, Public Works and Hydraulics (BTPH), including services and oil public works (STPP) (13.7%) and Market Services (10.2%).

As for the GDP's growth rate excluding hydrocarbons rose by 6.1%, while its rate except for agriculture increased by 7.5% during the second quarter of 2021 and compared to the same period of last year, added the office.

The total final demand rose by 5.9% due particularly to the increase in the volume of exports of goods and services (10.2%) and household final consumption which showed a growth of 7.1%.

Domestic demand further increased by 5.6% compared to the second quarter of 2020, concluded the source.
