APS - 03 January 2022

ALGIERS- Sonatrach plans to put into service this January the 4th turbocharger of the MEDGAZ gas pipeline which transports Algerian gas to Spain and Portugal, announced the group's CEO, Toufik Hakkar.

In an interview granted to the channel "Al24News," Hakkar said that this turbocharger will ensure the supply of Algerian gas to the Spanish and Portuguese markets.

Algeria has been able, through Sonatrach, to meet all its contractual commitments with the Spanish partner (10.5 bcm) via the MEDGAZ pipeline, said the official.

Algeria had decided to give up, from November 2021, the operation of the Maghreb Europe Pipeline (GME) to supply Spain and Portugal.

Regarding the additional quantities of gas, Hakkar said that Spanish customers have not requested to date any quantity beyond those provided in the contracts, but if they do, "Sonatrach is ready to negotiate the quantity, price, and modes of transport.
