Renewable energy: Chitour presents Algeria's objectives at IRENA Assembly

ALGIERS- Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies, Chems Eddine Chitour, presented Monday the objectives and priorities of the Algerian Government in the field of renewable energy and energy transition during the plenary session of the 11th General Assembly of Renewable Energies (IRENA), said the ministry in a statement.

Algeria took part in the 11th General Assembly of Renewable Energies (IRENA), which is being held virtually from January 18 to 21, to discuss key issues of global energy transformation and chart the way forward for the Agency in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the source said.

The Algerian delegation is composed of representatives of the Ministry of Energy Transition and the Ministry of Energy, added the same source.

During this first day, Chitour intervened in plenary session to present the objectives and priorities of the Government in the field of renewable energy and energy transition and the significant potential that Algeria has in terms of renewable and human resources, the ministry further added.

The Minister also reiterated Algeria's strong commitment to global efforts in the fight against climate change, particularly for the achievement of the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement, the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda of the United Nations, and at the regional level the Agenda 2063 for Africa, the ministry added.

Chitour also affirmed his willingness to carry out cooperative actions in a win-win spirit to accelerate the path towards a just and equitable energy transition in the bilateral and multilateral framework such as IRENA.
