ALGIERS-Electric cars will be progressively generalized in Algeria by 2030, has said Tuesday Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy Chems Eddine Chitour.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the 25th edition of Energy Day, Chitour said that Algeria "intends to gradually generalize electric cars by 2030 to reduce the use of fuel."
Electric cars will gradually replace gasoline and diesel cars, said the minister.
"We will start by acquiring 5,000 electric cars and installing charging stations for this type of vehicle," he said.
"Recharging electric cars costs five times less than the full tank of cars running on fuel," he continued.
Chitour stressed the need to raise awareness of the importance of turning to electric cars.
