White book on climate change impacts in Algeria comes out

APS - 28 February 2021

ALGIERS- The Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy announced Sunday the publication of the white book on the impacts of the climate change in Algeria.

The document was drawn up following the instructions of Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad who tasked Chems Eddine Chitour's department to initiate a reflection on the effects of climate change in Algeria, said the ministry in a communiqué.

"This reflection, which lists, in a non-exhaustive way, the human and material losses caused by climate change, was fruit of the participation of several ministerial departments and academics specialized in environment," said the source.

This white book describes the losses due to climate disturbance and the efforts made by Algeria to mitigate the effects, according to the source.

"By getting involved in the reduction of greenhouse gases, Algeria hopes that the effort that has been made could be appreciated by the climate international organizations, particularly in the future, because of the negative impact due to water stress," concluded the source.
