Algeria commits to implementing peace, reconciliation agreement in Mali

ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra affirmed Wednesday Algeria's commitment to implementing the peace and reconciliation agreement in Mali, stemming from Algiers process, through the continuation of dialogue with all the sides and efforts aimed to speed up its implementation.

In a statement to the press at the warp up of the 17th session of the Algerian-Malian Strategic Bilateral Committee, co-chaired the two countries' Foreign ministers with the participation of members of the two Governments, Lamamra underlined that "Algerian's commitment means the continuation of dialogue with all the sides and of efforts to speed up the pace of the implementation of the peace and reconciliation agreement in Mali."

During this meeting, it was agreed to "continue the efforts" made by Algeria in this regard. President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed to the Malian delegation "Algeria's absolute commitment to fully fulfill its role as the leader of the international mediation and by virtue of its presidency of the committee for monitoring the implementation of this agreement," he added.

Algeria will play positive roles in the future through constant dialogue with the Malian players, stressed Lamamra, adding "we will be able, in coordination with the Malian Government, to obtain further support of the international community to projects that are subject of consensus at the institutional, political and security levels, in addition to the reconstruction of the Malian armed forces in accordance with the agreement, as well as the economic and humanitarian levels such as the return of the refugees."

Lamamra stressed the need to "make sure that the national reconciliation in Mali enjoys all the interest in order to make a qualitative leap to help achieve the future aspired by the Malians."

Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra said that a number of issues related to the strategic relations between the two countries, notably Algeria's active role in implementing the peace and reconciliation agreement in Mali, were broached during this meeting.
