Berlin II praises Algeria's willingness to share reconciliation experience with Libya

BERLIN- The participants in the second international Conference on Libya, held Wednesday in Berlin, praised in the final document culminating the meeting, "Algeria's willingness to share its experience in terms of national reconciliation with Libya, noting "the support of the regional organizations and neighboring countries to the inclusive and rights-based reconciliation process."

"We welcome the support of regional organizations and neighboring countries to a process of inclusive, comprehensive and rights-based national reconciliation, and recognize the role of the African Union in this regard, as well as Algeria's willingness to share its experience in terms of national reconciliation," said the final communiqué which will be submitted to the United Nations and Security Council.

The participants note with satisfaction the first phases initiated by the Presidential Council " for the launch of an inclusive, comprehensive and rights-based national reconciliation process, "pointing out that they encourage the Libyan authorities to set up and strengthen the transitional justice institutions, if necessary, such as the Fact-Finding and Reconciliation Commission (FFRC) and the High Commission to the National Reconciliation, recently created.

The participants stressed, in their document, the necessity of holding the general elections on time (24 December 2021).

"The national parliamentary and presidential elections, scheduled on 24 December 2021, must be held as agreed in the roadmap adopted by the Forum of Libyan Political Dialogue (LPDF) in Tunis in November 2020, and their results must be accepted by everyone," said the source.
