ALGIERS - Algeria considers that "it is high time for Syria to return to the Arab League", said Wednesday the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, expressing the hope that the visit of the Emirati Foreign Minister to Damascus will "positively" contribute to the unification of ranks.

Speaking at a press conference at the end of the Conference of Heads of Algerian Diplomatic and Consular Missions at the Palace of Nations (Algiers), Lamamra said that "Algeria considers that it was high time for Syria to return to the Arab League," stressing that "Syria must restore its seat without any interference in its internal affairs."

Lamamra welcomed the visit of the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs to Damascus, expressing his hope that this visit will contribute to removing obstacles in relations between Syria and other Arab countries, so that we reach the desired goal, namely the unification of ranks.

"We should not interfere in the internal affairs of this country, nor interfere in who should govern in Syria, or even in the developments it is experiencing. We have always said: Algeria has never supported the suspension of Syria's membership in the Arab League. We do not believe that this had helped improve the situation," continued.

"We now look to the future and aspire to ambitious and positive steps. We will work for a consensus on the Syrian issue and the representation of Syria at the Arab League, as we support all steps to establish a new climate of peace and any effort to unify the ranks.
