Lamamra congratulates Mohamed Hamel on his election as SG of GECF

ALGIERS-Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra congratulated, Wednesday, the Advisor to the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Hamel, on his election as Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

"I offer warm congratulations to Mohamed Hamel on his election as Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). My best wishes for success in leading this organization and preserving the interests of gas-producing countries," Lamamra tweeted Wednesday.

Hamel was elected Tuesday GECF Secretary General among five candidates at the 23rd Ministerial Meeting of the Forum, in which the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab participated by videoconference.

The candidate of Algeria has received the support of several member countries of the GECF which includes 11 member countries, namely Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela.

The 9 observer countries are Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Norway, Oman, Peru, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
