ALGIERS- Algerian diplomacy advocates peace and solidarity between peoples and countries and promotes dialogue, said Tuesday in Algiers Speaker of the People's National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa
In his address at the international colloquium on new challenges of parliamentary diplomacy, attended by Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra, Ould Khelifa underlined that Algerian official and parliamentary diplomacy "advocates peace and solidarity between peoples and countries and the resolution of conflicts through dialogue," adding "this approach has allowed the country to resolve many conflicts without being a party to them."
"The values of emancipation, peace and security are the foundations of the Algerian diplomacy, which makes of freedom a principle and a goal through its support to the right of colonized peoples around the world to self-determination," said Ould Khelifa.
"The Algerian Parliament is contributing efficiently to building close relations with parliaments of sisterly and friendly countries, in line with the main principles of the Algerian State, based on openness to the world," he added.
Ould Khelifa underlined that the implementation of the deep political reforms, initiated by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika since 2011, and the recent amendments to the Constitution "have strengthened the rights of citizens and the national identity and have consolidated democracy."
In this regard, he said that President Bouteflika's main guidelines have helped to make of "Algeria, a country of security and peace in an unstable Arab and African environment and allowed the national official and parliamentary diplomacy to make its voice heard at regional and international fora."
