ALGIERS- Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning Kamel Beldjoud presented Monday, in a meeting by video conference with a number of Interior ministers of the European Union (EU), the Algerian approach and its humanitarian dimension in dealing with the phenomenon of illegal migration.
This meeting, to which took part representatives from Italy, France, Malta and Germany, was the opportunity to examine the illegal migration and to broach ways to fight against this phenomenon and to end it, said a ministerial communiqué.
In his speech, Beldjoud stressed the importance of this meeting "likely to strengthen the cooperation between the different players at the regional and international levels in the fight against smuggling networks."
"Seeking practical solutions to restrain this phenomenon" was also emphasized by the minister.
He reviewed the humanitarian dimension of the Algerian approach in dealing with this scourge, stressing notably the "the implementation of important material and human means and resources to take care of illegal migrants."
The minister reiterated, on this occasion, Algeria's constant willing and concern to strengthen cooperation ties with its partners to better deal with the flow of these migrants.
It is necessary, according to the minister, to act "according to a balanced vision based on cooperation and solidarity while taking into consideration the illegal migration and its relation with the factors of development and security. The objective is to address the consequences of this phenomenon in the region's countries," concluded the communiqué.
