ALGIERS- President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, called Tuesday for the rapid implementation of the Support Fund to address the climate-related security risks endorsed by the UN Security Council (UNSC) at the request of Algeria, urging the developed countries to commit to limiting the risks of climate change.
In his speech at the virtual meeting of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), President Tebboune stressed the need to speed up the implementation of policies and measures likely to activate the Fund which is deemed to be a key instrument to support Africa's efforts at both national and international levels, particularly in terms of climate adaptation and renewable energy development."
Highlighting the need to comply, in a fair and equal manner, with the Paris Agreement's provisions, the President of the Republic stressed the role of developed countries in achieving the set objectives.
He also described the Ministerial Declaration adopted at the 8th Extraordinary Session of the African Ministers' Conference as a "basic reference."
