11 sites chosen for execution of 1,000 MW solar energy project

ALGIERS- The Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy has chosen 11 sites for the execution of the "Solar 1,000" project, which includes solar power stations with an overall capacity of 1,000 MW.

Pending the effective launch of the new Algerian Renewable Energy Company "SHAEMS," a specialized working group has been set up to execute the "Solar 1,000" project, said the source.

The working group has prepared preliminary work for the launch of the Solar 1000 project before the end of this year.

11 sites with a total capacity of 4250 hectares have been chosen in several provinces, namely El-Bayadh, Ouargla, El Oued, El M'Ghair, Ghardaïa and Béchar.

The same group has set the financial conditions required for this type of project in order to ensure its financing by investors, with the assistance of the Ministry of Finance.
