Algeria's permanent mission to UN calls for meeting of Al-Quds Committee

APS - 20 April 2022

NEW YORK- Algeria's Permanent Mission to the United Nations renewed its call to the Permanent Observer Mission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to the United Nations in New York to hold a meeting of Al-Quds Committee in order to examine the tragic situation endured by the population of Al-Quds.

Referring to its Note Verbale of 15 April 2022, the Algerian mission underlined that the tragic situation prevailing in Al-Quds, in particular in Al-Aqsa Mosque, is no more compatible with the continuation of rhetoric and laudatory expressions that do not reflect the truth, especially as the OIC statement calls to emphasize the important role accomplished by Al-Quds Committee under the presidency of Moroccan King Mohamed VI.

This happens at a time when all is aware that this Committee, which was created in 1975, convened only twice during the past twenty years, the last of which was in 2014.

Aware of the seriousness of the current situation prevailing in the holy city of Al-Quds and where the Palestinian people are subject to serious human rights violations by the occupation forces, Algeria's Permanent Mission proposed to invite Al-Quds Committee to convene, as soon as possible, to fulfill its missions and achieve the objectives for which it was created.

Pointing out that "the fundamental and core issue is to call for a meeting of Al-Quds Committee," the Algerian mission said that "Anything else shouldn't call any further comments, and is nothing but fraudulent maneuvers aiming at distorting such noble objective and a desperate attempt to elude the responsibility towards the Palestinian cause.

The Algerian delegation called on the Permanent Observer Mission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to the United Nations to circulate this Note Verbale to all Permanent Missions of the OIC members States to the United Nations in New York.

Algeria's Permanent Mission seized this opportunity to renew TO the Permanent Observer Mission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to the United Nations in New York the assurance of its highest consideration.
