ALGIERS- The minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, continued Tuesday his intense diplomatic activity on the sidelines of the 76th United Nations General Assembly, as he met bilaterally with a number of counterparts from UN member States, in addition to his participation in high level meetings, the ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday in a statement.
"Lamamra took part in the opening session of the general debate of the General Assembly (GA) under the theme Building Resilience through hope to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainably, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of people, and revitalize the United Nations," the statement said.
The minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad said that "Algeria will seize this opportunity to present its vision and approach to enable the international community to go beyond this pivotal stage in the history of humanity."
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly works, Lamamra held bilateral meetings with his South African, Jordanian, Greek, Irish, Vietnamese, Estonian and Spanish counterparts.
It is worth noting that Ireland, Vietnam and Estonia are non-permanent members of the Security Council.
The head of Algerian diplomacy received, at the headquarters of the Algerian Mission to the UN, the secretary general of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).
He was received by the president of the Libyan Presidential Council to whom he conveyed a message from the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The discussions focused on the bilateral relations and coordination of positions on international and regional issues, according to the statement.
