UN SG "very satisfied" with Algeria's role as "key peacemaker" in region

ALGIERS-The new Ambassador, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations (UN) System in Algeria, Alejandro Enrique Alvarez said Sunday in Algiers that the UN Secretary General (SG), Antonio Guterres was "very satisfied" with the role of Algeria in the region as a "key player in terms of peace and security."

In a statement to the press after delivering his credentials accrediting him as the new Ambassador Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Algeria to the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Alvarez said "I had the honor to be received with the chairmen of UN agencies working with me by the President of the Republic, and this meeting was an opportunity to discuss the role of Algeria in the world and in the region."

The new ambassador stressed that "the UN SG is very pleased with the role that Algeria plays in the region as a key player in peace and security."

Alvarez also said he discussed with President Tebboune "the technical cooperation of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with Algeria and the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) in several areas, including economy."

He also welcomed "the reforms initiated by the Algerian government, including the creation of new jobs, economic diversification and support for social security."

The ceremony of delivery of credentials, which took place at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra and the Director of Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, Abdelaziz Khellaf.
