Algeria denies its submarines chased foreign submarine near territorial waters

APS - 02 October 2021

ALGIERS- The minister of National Defence on Saturday brought a categorical denial to information reported by the media according to which submarines from the Algerian Naval Forces would have detected and chased a foreign submarine, which was near the national territorial waters during Algeria's combined exercise "RADAA 2021," stressing that the "no incident" was recorded during the exercise, and "even less the one mentioned by the media." "Electronic websites and some national newspapers have reported that submarines from our Naval Forces have detected and chased a foreign submarine near national territorial waters, during the combined Naval Exercise 'RADAA 2021,' conducted at the Naval Firing Range of the Western Seafront in the 2nd military region during the period of 29-30 September 2021, in which several floating units of our Naval Forces participated," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry of National Defence "categorically denies the information reported by these media and assures that the naval exercise, executed with great success by the Djurdjura submarine crew, has not recorded any incident, and even less that mentioned by the media," the statement said.

The ministry of National Defence invites the national media to contact its relevant departments to ascertain the veracity of such information before publishing them, in order to avoid misleading public opinion, the statement concluded.
