ALGIERS-Algerian boxers Abdelhafid Benchabla and Oussama Mordjane were included in the Top 10 of the new ranking of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) published on its website.
Benchabla ranked 6th with a total of 700 points in the 91 kg category, a category dominated by the Russian Muslim Gadzhimagomedov who totals 1900 pts.
Oussama Mordjane is 10th in the 60 kg category with a total of 350 pts, far behind the Cuban leader Alavrez Estrada Lazaro (1500 pts).
In addition to these two Algerians, four other of their compatriots are ranked in the world Top 40, namely Mohamed Flissi, 14th in the 52 kg category, Chouaib Bouloudinats 20th in the +91 kg category, Réda Benbaziz 24th in the 64 kg category and Sofiane Tabi ranked 31st in the 75 kg category.
In the women's category, and in the 51 kg category, Algerian Boualam Roumaysa shares 8th place with the Colombian Valencia Victoria Lorena with 700 pts. The first place in the category went to the North-Korean Panf Chol Mi with 2350 pts.
The other Algerian pugilist in the new AIBA ranking is Imane Khelif (60 kg) who shares 28th position (250 pts) with the Canadian Fiolek Irene The first place went to Brazilian Soares Ferreira Lasmin (2015 pts).
This ranking is provisional pending the introduction of the results of the continental Olympic qualification tournaments whose points will be counted to set the final ranking that will be taken into account for the Tokyo Olympics, postponed from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
