ALGIERS- The Algerian senior men's team won Saturday the African title in the Greco-Roman wrestling event with a total of six medals (6 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze), as part of the fifth day of the African Wrestling Championships (all categories), held at the Olympic Complex Mohamed Boudiaf, in Algiers.
The Algerians dominated the finals of the Greco-Roman event by defeating the Egyptians with a total of eight medals (4 gold and 4 silver) and Tunisians with eight medals (2 silver and 6 bronze).
The Algerian gold medals were snatched by Abdelkrim Fergat (55 kg), Abdeljebbar Djebbari (63 kg), Abdelkrim Ouakali (77 kg), Chawky Doulache (82 kg), Sid Azara Bachir (87 kg) and Adem Boudjemline.
The Algerian women's team won only two medals (1 silver and 1 bronze). The silver medal was harvested by Amel Hammiche while the bronze medal went to Ibtissem Doudou (50 kg).
The total of medals won by the Algerians until the fifth day of these Championships amounts to 66 medals (19 gold, 28 silver and 19 bronze).
